Sex and Spirituality — A Gay Asian Perspective
Friday, November 16th, 8:00pm
The LGBT Center, 13th St. betw 7th and 8th Ave.
Sex is sex and church is church and never the twain shall meet… Surely you don’t mean sex in church, though…!
Both sex and spirituality touch the deepest parts of our being, but many churches and other religious institutions put a heavy stigma on sex, teach that sex, let alone gay sex, is sin, and through guilt and shame force us to separate our sexuality from our spirituality. Is it possible to celebrate both our sexual and spiritual selves? Can we integrate our sexual and spiritual lives? Can coming out be a spiritual experience? What role does the concept of religion play in our community and individual lives?
Join GAPIMNY with guest, Reverend Boon Lin Ngeo, for a discussion on the role of religion and spirituality in our community. Rev. Boon is a minister with the Metropolitan Community Church of New York (MCC-NY), an adjunct lecturer at St. Peter’s College, and the first openly gay clergy in Malaysia with plans to open Malaysia’s first gay church.
