GAPIMNY joins Adhikaar and 46 other Asian Pacific Islander organizations in asking Congress to demand that the Department of Homeland Security extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for all countries and pass legislation that allows all TPS and Deferred Enforcement Departure (DED) beneficiaries to adjust to permanent residency, and eventually a pathway to citizenship.
“Legislation must additionally ensure all TPS and DED beneficiaries are granted work authorization, public benefits such as health care, advance parole, and a process to acquire residency without having to leave the United States. Many people face great risks and danger
when going back to home countries that may simply not have the appropriate resources or safety net services to assure their secure repatriation. Furthermore, TPS and DED beneficiaries should be able to petition their children and immediate family members to adjust status.”
