Did you know that Taiwan is on the verge of becoming the first country in Asia to win marriage equality?
But anti-LGBT forces—instigated and funded by US-based evangelical organizations—are determined to stop it, by forcing three referenda onto the ballot next month that would block the freedom to marry and attack LGBT youth in Taiwan.
In response, LGBT activists have proposed two referenda that would safeguard marriage and LGBT-inclusive curriculum – meaning that on November 24th, Taiwanese voters will decide on 5 separate LGBT-related referenda.
Taiwan is now a global battleground for LGBT human rights – which is why we’re helping to support a NYC event on Fri, November 2nd at The Stonewall Inn to raise resources and awareness for the local Taiwanese activists who are leading this historic fight.
Taiwan’s Constitutional Court has already ruled in favor of marriage equality—mandating that same-sex couples should be able to begin marrying by May 2019. We can’t stand by as the most vocal opponents of LGBT equality in the US export their agenda to attack our gay and lesbian friends in Taiwan by blocking this landmark ruling.
