GAPIMNY and Q-Wave welcome Sharmin Hossain from Equality Labs and Parissah Lin and Michelle Ling from Yellow Jackets Collective to discuss the rise of the “Asian Right”, the resurgence of right-wing conservatism within the Asian American and immigrant communities.
Sharmin Hossain is a queer Bangladeshi Muslim organizer who’s done caste abolition organizing in the South Asian diaspora and currently works as a digital security trainer with Equality Labs (www.equalitylabs.org). Sharmin will speak about the rise of Hindu fundamentalism and caste abolition in a South Asian and global context of anti-Blackness.
Parissah Lin and Michelle Ling are one half of Yellow Jackets Collective, an intersectional collective of queer Yellow American femmes collaborating towards futures that center marginalized bodies. Parissah and Michelle will discuss racial hierarchies in the US and the mobilization of inter-POC violence, settler colonialism and anti-blackness in East Asian American communities.
This event is part of a series of public gatherings called “Angry Woke Asians” focusing on political education and awareness.
Accessibility: The event will be held on the 1st floor of The People’s Forum. It is wheelchair and handicap accessible. There is an elevator to the other floors. We are still determining the type of bathrooms that are available, please stay tuned. Please email [email protected] if you have any accessibility concerns.
