Frequently, Asian Americans students are presented as students from whom the education system can have high expectations. GAPIMNY leadership understands this as an injustice because we understand Asian American experiences are vastly different. It is this model minority narrative that silences the LGBT Asian American experience, which includes bullying. Also the Asian American Center for Advancing Justice has been generating studies since 2004 that Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian, and Hmong American adults have the lowest education attainment rate among Asian Americans. We stand in support of The All Students Count bill, that would require state report cards to disaggregate in a similar manner. The Southeast Asian Resource Center has provided a fact sheet here.
