Model Minority or Manipulated Minority?
The History of Racism in the U.S.: an Asian American Perspective
Don Kao, one of the founders of GAPIMNY, will take us through the 180 year history of racism against Asians in the U.S. in this mind opening workshop. See how Asians have been used to undermine other People of Color communities and movements for social change. In addition, we will explore a multiracial history time line to draw together the interconnections of Native American, African American, Latina/o, Asian/Pacific Islander and Women’s herstories/histories.

Project Reach is a youth and adult-run, multi-racial, multi-gender, grassroots, anti-discrimination, youth organizing center with a clear mission and commitment to challenging the destruction among, of, and between New York City’s disparate youth communities. Implicit in that mission is a vision that recognizes that the empowerment of disenfranchised youth communities is critical and integral to their participation as future leaders in the larger movement for social justice.
