The reason I joined the GAPIMNY Steering Committee is because I want to learn more about what it means to be part of the QAPI community in the city, especially for someone who recently moved here from the SF Bay Area after graduation. Being in the leadership of GAPIMNY allows me the opportunity to not only get to know more QAPI folks in the city, but it also exposed me to various LGBTQ and API organizations in the East Coast.
Coming from a place like Berkeley, I’ve been somewhat active in the political scene. And being a part of the GAPIMNY leadership and interacting/working with different non-profit organizations in the city, it allows me to learn more and more about racial, LGBTQ, and immigrant rights issues along with their intersectionalities. It also allows me to learn more about where I stand in the society as part of the QAPI community, and what I can do to help out.
