GAPIMNY joins coalition of 573 national organizations, state and local groups demanding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to continue enforcement of the Fair Housing Act and other anti-discrimination measures. This letter was prepared in response to alarming news accounts alleging that HUD is contemplating amending its mission statement to remove references to creating “inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination.”
As the federal agency appointed by Congress to enforce the Fair Housing Act, HUD should use all of its authority and resources to eradicate housing discrimination and promote healthy, safe, and inclusive neighborhoods that are full of the opportunities that help people thrive.
Although Secretary Carson has put out a note to HUD rebutting media reports, we nevertheless remain very concerned that HUD would consider dropping anti-discrimination language.
