Sticky rice, potato queens, and rice queens. We all know them. Maybe you are one; maybe you’ve fucked one; maybe you married one. And what if you did? This General Meeting provides an occasion to discuss the relationship between race, power, and desire. After screening short films by Richard Fung and Nguyen Tan Hoang (author of A View From the Bottom: Asian American Masculinity and Sexual Representation) attendees will examine their experiences and assumptions with regard to interracial intimacy. We will aspire to focus not only on the much-analyzed relationship between APIs and whites, but also on those between APIs and other non-whites, Pacific Islanders and Asian Americans, and East and Southeast Asians. If “the personal is political,” then what are the stakes of our most intimate activities? Can a blowjob be decolonial? Can bottoming provide a model for ethical behavior in the age of Trump? Can we change our desires to match our politics? Should we? And what happens when love and racism decide to climb into bed together?
Reserve your spot at the meeting on eventbrite!
To promote a safe space for this dialogue about race, sexuality and sexual orientation, we are limiting this GM to queer, trans and gay identifying API folks.
