Greetings! We hope that everyone had a happy and healthy (except for the over-eating) Thanksgiving. This e-mail announces that the GAPIMNY Steering Committee election season begins now.
GAPIMNY wants you! The new Steering Committee for 2009 will be elected at our regular monthly General Meeting on Jan. 16, and nominations for positions on the board are now open, and will close on Dec. 26. Any full paid member can nominate or be nominated, and one can nominate oneself. Attached please find a document outlining the various board positions. To make a nomination, simply send an e-mail to [email protected] naming the person, and the position to which you would like to nominate him.
The Steering Committee is the governing board of GAPIMNY, which makes all major decisions, and makes its many social, cultural, and political activities happen, so a full, active and engaged board is essential to GAPIMNY’s continuing success. As an all volunteer run organization, GAPIMNY depends on the energy and ideas of it’s members, so if you like to contribute to its current activities, or pursue new ideas, joining the Steering Committee is a great way to do it. You can also learn skills like party planning, political organizing, networking, project management, public speaking, meeting planning and facilitation, and grant writing. But most importantly, it is the social connections and the friendships that you will make while helping the community that will be most fulfilling.
If you have any questions about the Steering Committee or the elections, please send an e-mail to [email protected], and we will get back to you promptly. We will be happy to talk to you about any questions you might have about GAPIMNY, the Steering
Committee, being a Steering Committee member, or the election process. You can also meet some of the current board members more informally at the next general meeting, which will also be our holiday party, on Dec. 19. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
We look forward to seeing you at a Steering Committee meeting, the holiday party, or election night! To all a happy holiday season,
-The GAPIMNY Steering Committee
