A couple of years ago, a handful of GAPIMNY SC members had asked me if I was interested in joining them. They were friends that accepted me; they never challenged me on my gender identity or expression. They genuinely seemed interested in wanting my involvement without the pressure. At a time where I felt burdened by obligations, I felt valued as a person from the leadership. Being involved in the SC allowed me an opportunity to do work where I could feel affirmed and find meaning.
I feel that being part of an organization such as GAPIMNY is an opportunity, because it is a platform to explore the many issues that impact our lives and raise it in a way that we couldn’t independently. By being involved, I find my strength as a member of a leadership of QAPI men.
