Queer Asians in Cyberspace: Online Dating and Social Networking
with Sam Van, founder of LoveGAM.com
Friday, September 19th, 8PM @ The LGBT Center, 208 West 13th St., between 7th and 8th Ave.
(Please visit reception desk for room number.)
Come join GAPIMNY and our guest Sam Van, former GAPIMNY member and founder of LoveGAM.com, for a discussion of online social networks and online dating. We’ve all heard of it, many of us have tried it – some of us are afraid of it. What do we hope for, and what have we found for ourselves in this cornerstone of the gay scene? For those of us who haven’t tried it, how do we get started?
Just as our Asian identities influence our lives in the real world, so also on the Internet. Sam will also discuss how online dating affects queer Asians, and how our experiences may differ from that of our non-Asian counterparts. In addition to telling and listening to our collective stories, Sam will share his experiences and insights establishing the Internet’s newest site devoted to gay Asian social networking and the successes he’s had with the project.
*GAPIMNY provides a safe and supportive social, political, and educational forum for gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning Asian and Pacific Islander men in the New York metropolitan area. In an effort to create a safe space, this meeting is only open to gay, bisexual, and questioning men and transgender people of Asian and Pacific Islander heritage. Thanks for respecting the space.
